"A young heiress in 1928, Martha Ivers, who fails to run off with friend Sam
Masterson, and is instead involves in a series of fatal events. Years later, Sam
returns to find that Martha has gained immense power and has married the
District Attorney. Together they pull Sam into a convoluted web of deceit,
corruption and ultimately a murder plot. The film debut of Kirk Douglas makes
this film especially appealing."
